What is BFR?
Blood flow restriction (BFR) is a technique that uses a device, such as an inflatable cuff, to partially restrict blood flow to an arm or leg during low-intensity exercise.
The goal is to create a metabolic environment that stimulates muscle growth and strength gains, similar to high-intensity exercise, but with less stress on the joints and tendons. This form of therapy can accelerate recovery, reduce pain, and is used in rehabilitation for a variety of injuries and conditions.
BFR therapy should be performed under the guidance of a trained professional, such as a physical therapist, to ensure safety and proper application. Individuals with certain medical conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, deep vein thrombosis, or kidney disease, should not use BFR without consulting a doctor.
